The Premier League introduced the new system name as “tariff” system for those who break the rule. According to this rule the Premier League might not get rid of taking away points from teams who break the rules, but they might change how they do it. The League does not deduct the points but sets various penalties for different kinds of rule breaking.
This hot news makes the Man City team wait about the outcome of their case. They are eagerly waiting what will happen in their case about Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.
This season, Everton and Nottingham Forest both lost points because they broke Premier League financial rules. Even though Leicester City is playing in the Championship this season, they’ve also been accused of breaking financial rules.
Point Deduction From Premier League
A soccer team named Toffees had lost ten points because of breaking the rule. After hearing that, they complained about it. Now the punishment was made less severe and only six points were deducted. But they might still get another punishment. Another team called Forest is also fighting against a four-point deduction.
Soccer clubs are only allowed to lose a certain amount of money over three years. But if they’re not doing well and drop to a lower league, they’re allowed to lose less money each year.
Some people who work for soccer clubs in the Premier League think the rules about how much money clubs can lose aren’t good enough. They say the punishments given to Everton and Forest were too harsh and don’t really match the reasons why the rules were made in the first place.
Some people said that the Premier League might stop taking away points from teams who break the rules and instead make them pay a “luxury tax.”
But now The Times newspaper says that the Premier League is likely going to continue taking points away from teams that break the rules. They might only make teams pay fines for smaller rule violations.
The Report adds: Squad cost rule is also introduced along with a new system. According to it, it limits how much money teams can spend. If this new system is approved by the club in the June meeting then it would start in the 2025-26 season.
The Times also talks about a possible new salary cap idea called “anchoring.” This means the amount of money a team can spend on players’ salaries would be based on how much TV money the lowest-ranked team gets. For example, if the bottom team gets £100 million, the most any team could spend on salaries and player transfers might be 4.5 times that amount.
Point Deduction of Manchester City or much worsen
The decision to punish Everton and Nottingham Forest by taking away points has made people pay more attention to the accusations against Manchester City.
The announcement of taking away points from other teams makes people more attentive to the Manchester City team because they also break the 115 rule about FFP.
They might lose points or be kicked out of competitions if they are proven guilty. But Manchester City says they didn’t do anything wrong and they’re ready to argue their case. Nobody knows how long this process will take, but some say it could go on for many years.
Keith Wyness, who used to be the boss of Everton, recently said that the long report about why Nottingham Forest lost four points suggests that Manchester City might also get kicked out if they’re found guilty of breaking the rules 115 times.
According to Wyness: “For the first time, I’ve noticed the word expulsion cropping up in the report from Nottingham Forest’s hearing.
“City must be noticing that for the first time, as well.
“We don’t know yet, and they’ve got every right to plead the case, but expulsion does seem to be on the table given the severity of what’s supposed to have happened.
“We’re yet to see the evidence, though, and we need to get it going sooner rather than later.”
