The Evening Standard claims that Manchester City has shown a strong interest in Chelsea’s gifted full-back Ian Maatsen. After a standout loan experience at Burnley, Maatsen is now in the final year of his Chelsea deal. Although the young Dutch left-back decided not to return to Turf Moor this summer, he might be about to make a big move in the upcoming season.

When Maatsen enrolled in Chelsea’s academy in 2018, his extraordinary adventure in English football officially began. He has spent the last few seasons on loan at a number of different teams, most recently Burnley, Charlton Athletic, and Coventry City. He has become recognised as one of the most exciting young players in English football because to his constant standout performances.

Maatsen made 40 appearances last season while on loan at Burnley, making an amazing four goals and six assists across all competitions. With statistics of 2.0 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, 1.3 clearances, 0.9 shoots, and 1.0 crucial passes per game in the English Championship, he demonstrated his abilities both offensively and defensively. Additionally, he demonstrated accuracy in passing, finishing 83.5% of his deliveries in the second division of English football.

Technical excellence, exceptional crossing ability, strong defensive abilities, and a tough tackling style are some of Maatsen’s strengths. His exceptional work ethic and commitment to growth have not gone unnoticed. Additionally, he occasionally demonstrates a talent for scoring creative goals and makes a substantial contribution to opening up scoring chances for his teammates in the final third.

Considering the buy option in his loan agreement, Maatsen might potentially join Manchester City next summer, especially if Joao Cancelo’s move to Barcelona becomes permanent. Maatsen is one feasible possibility, but he is not the only one. He still provides the Etihad club a promising financial future, which may create an attractive chance for the Sky Blues.

It should be noted that there is a chance Manchester City might sign Maatsen the following summer without having to pay a transfer fee, though this scenario would appear unlikely if Chelsea suggested a contract extension. However, if such an extension is not granted, it may present the Manchester-based club with a clever and profitable chance.
